Hi, mcc,
You may want to check
http://www.opusdei.ph/ssec.php?a=3613 which lists a few initiatives by people of Opus Dei and Cooperators in the Philippines.
Some faithful of Opus Dei together with some Cooperators and others, some of whom are non-Christians carry out in each country educational, social and cultural projects.
SOCIAL INITIATIVES
August 15, 2008 CITE: Quality Technical Education for Youth - The Center for Industrial Technology and Enterprise (CITE) was established in Cebu City, Philippines in February 1990. It is an institution committed to provide training in technical skills and entrepreneurship, values formation, and social services to the less privileged youth, their families, the local community and the industrial sector of Visayas and Mindanao.
May 25, 2007 - Exemplary virtues in ordinary work - Last month, Anihan graduated 60 professionally-trained young women into the local hotel and restaurant industry.
May 19, 2006 - Spirit behind efforts to help the less fortunate - Punlaan School and Talon Family Farm School help to uplift the living standards of the students and their families, always guided by Christian values.
May 18, 2007 - University of Asia & the Pacific - In its institutional programs and activities, UA&P puts due emphasis on the individual; the family; the community; and the world. Each unit of the University thus strives to be a center of excellence, particularly in three areas: values formation, people development, and research and communication. These are the hallmarks of UA&P as an educational institution.
Other initiatives:
In Nigeria: Apostolic Initiatives - Some faithful of Opus Dei together with some Cooperators and others, some of whom are non-Christians carry out in each country educational, social and cultural projects which are aimed at providing service and formation. These include schools, hospitals, universities and centres of professional formation
Pan-African University, Lagos - These initiatives try to respond to real needs in the country or environment and the promoters sustain them with full financial and managerial autonomy. The Prelature only takes care of the Christianization of these social initiatives, by providing doctrinal orientation as well as priestly attention to those who freely request it.
In the words of the founder of Opus Dei, “Student residences, conference centres, the University of Navarre, training centres for skilled and unskilled workers, technical institutes, schools, secretarial colleges, home management schools, etc. These centres are undoubtedly sources which project the Christian view of life. Managed by laymen, directed as professional activities by lay citizens who are the same as their colleagues at work, and open to people of all classes and conditions, these have made many sectors of society appreciate the need of offering a Christian solution to the problems which arise in the exercise of their profession or job.” (Conversations, no. 18)
Iroto Rural Development Centre, Ijebu-Ode - Opus Dei exercises distinct types of responsibilities in these institutions. In the so-called “corporate works of apostolate”, Opus Dei makes a moral guarantee of the Christian orientation of the activities carried out there, such as education and research. In other cases, it offers spiritual help to a greater or lesser extent, without the prelature officially taking on the moral guarantee of the formation given there. Such spiritual help can take on different formats such as priestly attention, teaching of classes of religion, etc.
