St Josemaria iPhone App

St Josemaría iPhone App

For those of you with an iPhone, you can now acquire the St. Josemaría App from the AppStore.   As of this writing, the app is on version 1.4.1.  One of the interesting aspects of the app is that it facilitates the fulfillment of the daily ‘Norms of Piety’. When you press on the ‘Daily Norms’ button, a ‘Norms Checklist’ opens up for you, where you can tick off on those you’ve done for the day :-)

PENTECOST:  In the ‘Writings-Gospels’  section, you’d find all the works of the Founder, as well as Gospel Readings, a space where you can store the monthly letters of the Father, and other words addressed by the Opus Dei Founder.  The last prayer listed is the ‘Prayer to the Holy Spirit’:

“Come, O Holy Spirit! Enlighten my mind to know your commands; strengthen my heart against the snares of the enemy; inflame my will… I have heard your voice, and I don’t want to harden myself and resist, saying “Later…tomorrow.”  Nunc coepi! Now I begin! In case there is no tomorrow for me.

O Spirit of truth and wisdom, Spirit of understanding and counsel, Spirit of joy and peace! I want whatever you want, I want because you want, I want whatever you want, I want whenever you want.”

Dear Aliza: I am not that hip with an i phone. I get lost with the little communication devices that I use, as you well know. Thanks for the invitation, though. As mu daughters would say: “That is too much technology for you Mom”. Teresa

  4. [...] In his letter for June 2010, the Prelate asks us to seek “Jesus in the Tabernacle—where he is truly present—and in our soul in grace. Let us try to find him also in the members of the Church, his Mystical Body, especially in the most disadvantaged: the sick, the poor…”.  Here are some of the many Eucharist-related prayers you’d find on the St Josemaría iPhone App: [...]

I use this for the iPhone and I really find the app so helpful and inspiring! You can even change the settings including the font type and size, background colors and images, etc.

I just have to be careful about using it in my parish because those who don’t know about the availability of the liturgy or spiritual readings on electronic devices might get scandalized thinking I’m reading text messages!

There is also a very helpful group called The Missal Project that has applications like the Missal itself and various prayers for the iPhone, Blackberry, Palm and other devices, using the iSilo ebook reader. Write for info.

  6. Thank you so much!
I’ve trying to get organized with my iphone, and adding the prayers and norms to the app is just amazing!
Great app for someone as disorganized and busy as myself.
    Keep up the good work,
    MK.

    Hello,

We are the developers for this app.
Now the app is only for iPhone and iPad, however we have plans to develop for Android and BlackBerry.

We are just beginning in the Android market, so the app may take up 3 months.

If you want to review the app for iPhone, this is the link for the last update St. Josemaria 2.0

The most awesome app ever! I have the android evo 4g
but I still carry my iPhone everyday just for this app. It should
never be free though, if we want great not just mediocre
Catholic apps then we must be willing to pay the talent that make
them for us. I would love to see a sponsorship model be used,
say, I would pay double the price to have the site put up a free
license for someone who can’t afford the app fee, that sort a
    thing.

And as others have requested please get us an android ver ASAP.

    Thanks,

Looking forward to an Android version!

I have this app on my iPod Touch and it is awesome. However, I made the switch to a DroidX. I am really glad to see that you are working on a version for the Android platform.

    Keep up the great work!

  25. Brent says:

I am very happy about the news of the Android version! I have purchased both the iPod and the iPad versions and have been thrilled with them. I was actually thinking about switching to the iPhone this summer, just for this app. Very happy that I will be able to stay on Android.

  26. David CJ Conroy says:

My auntie has the iphone and this is on it. It’s brilliant but I have a nokia N8. Can you please make this for Symbian OS?
Also there are a lot of people that can’t afford the iphone but can afford cheaper smartphones with app capabilities. It would be wonderful to see this on all mobile operating systems

  36. Holly Salls says:

I have an android, and the app for the android is not comparable to the one for iPhones. For one thing, the gospel that comes with the app is in Spanish! When you hit the Mass norm the only prayers are some that a priest would say before Mass, no prayers suitable for after receiving communion or in thanksgiving after Mass. The Mass itself is not on the app. There are many glaring misspellings that do not reflect the perfection that St. Josemaria would expect from an app dedicated to him. It gives the impression that the translation was done by someone who does not know English well. On the norms list there is one that says “Remember”, instead of the Memorare. No one who speaks English but not Spanish would know what “Remember” refers to. I find this inexcusable in an app dedicated someone who preached perfection in ordinary work.

I like having what is on the app, but the contents are much more resticted than the iPhone app and I paid the same amount of money. The Adroid version needs some serious revisions quickly and provided to those of us who already use it free of charge. I am very disappointed but also thankful for it.

  37. Aliza Racelis says:

Thank you very much, Holly, for your valuable comments. I’ll make sure to make them reach the App programmers concerned, but please do bear with us. Thank you. Pax et Bonum.
