World Youth Day 2011 Madrid

Jornada Mundial de la Juventud (JMJ) 2011 Madrid

World Youth Day (WYD) is an international event organized by the Catholic Church, uniting young people from all over the World who are Catholic, as well as other denominations of faith. The event is presided by the Holy Father and it occurs every two or three years.

The celebration of the XXVI World Youth Day will be held in Madrid, Spain’s capital, from the 16th to the 21st of August, 2011. The theme chosen is from St. Paul: “Rooted and built up in Christ; strengthened in the faith.” This will be the second time this international event will be held in Spain, the first having been celebrated in 1989 in Santiago de Compostela.

Kindly bookmark the Official Website of WYD (JMJ) Madrid 2011.  For those on Facebook, here’s the official WYD Madrid 2011 Page, and its accompanying Events Page Madrid 2011.

As of this writing, the definitive promo video –to showcase important places in Madrid and to drum up greater interest in JMJ 2011– is still in the making.  Click here to see some shots

Here’s the official Twitter account of Madrid 2011 JMJ.  For the Pope’s birthday, the WYD youth (members of FB page) sent in their personal photos; these were in turn put together and turned into a wonderful mosaic photo of Pope Benedict! Click here to see and download the picture :-)
