Dubai – Recollections

We are told on the Forum that the Regional Vicar of East Africa visited DUBAI last January and preached a Recollection on January 23, 2010 at the St. Francis Church, Jebel Ali, Dubai.  For the women, in the morning; for the men in the afternoon. It is the same church where the first Mass of Our Father was held.

Here’s an account of that first Recollection:

“January 23, 2010 was an exciting day for all of us working here in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. We had our recollection at St. Francis Church in Jebel Ali. This is the first recollection in the Middle East (GULF area). It is an answer to our prayers. Msgr. Albert, Regional Vicar of Opus Dei for East Africa  flew all the way from KENYA. We followed the format of the recollections in our respective countries. Fr. Albert heard confessions, received our chats and did the meditations. I gave a talk on sanctification of work and my colleague William (also from Kenya) led the Rosary and led the examination of conscience. The recollection was also attended by cooperators and friends who are also living in Dubai. And there was even a guy who drove all the way from Abu Dhabi just to attend the activities. We believe that this is only the beginning and we hope to have more activities in the future. Thank you for all your prayers!”

We received information that Father Albert is coming to Dubai again for a Recollection on April 17th, to be held at St Francis Church like last time.  Please disseminate this information to those who are in Dubai or those who have friends in Dubai.  Keep the prayers coming!

Thank you for your prayers! The April 17th Recollection went very well!

Some of those who attended the first recollection last January brought along their friends and family members.

One of the attendees brought flowers for the altar! We were so pleased to have this detail with Our Lord and Mother Mary, and we tried our best to arrange them like the way they do in the Centers.

There were 2 attendees who flew in all the way from Azerbaijan! They were so happy with the experience because they, like us in Dubai, are quite far from any Center of the Work.

Please keep up the prayers for Dubai. Thank you

    Hello,

My daughter and her husband and 4 children are moving to Dubai.

Do you know of the good schools and is there a school attached to St Frances Church?

I know this note has nothing to do with recollections but I thought I might ask.

    Thank you

    Carmel Bacon

    Hi Carmel

St Mary’s is the only Catholic School in Dubai and it’s run by St Mary’s Parish which is about 40km away from St Francis. All other international schools are secular. St Mary’s and St Francis however, both offer almost year round weekly catechism classes for children and bible study classes for adults.

There are a number of schools in the St Francis area and you may refer to this link http://www.khda.gov.ae/en/news/khdanews.aspx and check under SCHOOLS/INSPECTION REPORTS where each school is rated outstanding, good, acceptable or not acceptable by the local government authority. It also gives you the schools’ websites.

It all really depends on which area your daughter’s family plan to reside in and it’s a good idea for them to email the schools directly to help them decide. All the best to them!

Thank you Jackie for your response. I only mentioned St Francis church because that is the church we went to mass in once. Is St Mary’s school an Opus Dei school.

    I do appreciate your communication.
